Room Preparations
Groceries
We recommend making sure your cabinets are well-stocked with food items in case the
weather conditions make the sidewalks too treacherous. Although unlikely, to be best
prepared, have foods that can be prepared with or without power. Should we experience
severe weather conditions, it is likely local grocery stores or restaurants may not
be open.
Charge Your Phones
Make sure your phones are fully charged should there be a power outage.
Close Blinds
When a storm with high winds hits, it is a good idea to make sure your blinds are
closed in case a window breaks. This is unlikely to happen, but it is better to err
on the side of caution.
Water
Loss of water is also unlikely, but during storms, it’s a good idea to have extra
water on hand (fill containers and place them in the refrigerator).
Flashlights
Having a flashlight and batteries on hand is never a bad idea! Remember, candles
are not permitted under any circumstances!
Winter weather
Traveling Preparations
- Check the news forecast
- Check road conditions
- Stay mobile
- Winterize your vehicle
- Pack an emergency supply kit
In case of a tornado warning:
If the tornado watch switches to a tornado warning, the emergency warning sirens will
sound. Please do the following if that happens:
- Stay away from outside walls, windows, mirrors, and glass.
- Everyone should move from offices and classrooms to designated shelter in place locations.
If time permits, attempt to move to the lowest possible level of the building.
- Do not use elevators!
- Sit on the floor with your back to the interior wall and cover the back of your head
with your arms.
- Remain in the building unless told to evacuate by emergency personnel.
Be aware of the danger of falling trees, high winds, flooding, and power outages.
Falling Trees
Report fallen trees in roadways, sidewalks, or other hazardous areas to facilities
as soon as possible by calling Public Safety at (479) 968-0222. Do not attempt to
move trees yourself.
High Winds
The safest place to be during high winds is away from windows with as many walls between
you and the wind and on the lowest level possible. In advance of these winds, remember
to bring in any outside items that are not secured to the ground.
Flooding
A lot of rain in a short period of time can result in flash flooding. Whenever there
is flooding remember to never drive through flooded roads and ensure critical personal
paperwork is kept in a waterproof container or bag.
Power Outages
- Report on-campus outages to Public Safety at (479) 968-0222. We will work with Entergy
to get the power restored. Consider the following:
-
-
- Charge your phone regularly in case of an outage
- Unplug power cords - prevent items from power surges
- Put your device on battery saving mode if your battery is low
- Have a flashlight and batteries
- Never use candles during a power outage and do not touch any downed power lines
