The Department of English and World Languages offers a number of scholarships for its majors, as well as work opportunities.
The Francis Gwaltney Memorial Scholarship honors the memory of the late author and his wife Ecey Gwaltney, who were both English Department faculty members. The one-time cash award is awarded each year on the basis of fiction submitted by student applicants. Tech students should submit individual works of fiction to the Department of English.
The Barbara Gund Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually in honor of the late Barbara Gund to a full-time Tech junior or senior majoring in English or English Education. Preference may be given to non-traditional students. Tech students should submit a letter of application explaining your interests and qualifications and a current Tech transcript.
The Rexann Oller Scholarships are avaliable for English, English Education, and Creative Writing majors. One Full Tuition Scholarship is awarded annually to a full-time student majoring within the English Department. One Half-Tuition Scholarhsip is awarded annually to a full-time student majoring within the English Department. Two $2,000 Scholarships are awared to full-time students majoring within the English Department. To apply, please submit a letter of application expaining your interests and qualifications.
Any Arkansas Tech University sophomore or junior, minoring in Foreign Languages, may apply for this scholarship. Applicants must submit an application letter, no longer than two pages, explaining why they are applying for the scholarship. Specific points should include reasons for studying foreign languages, professional goals and objectives, financial need, etc. All applicants should submit an unofficial transcript. Applicants must have a 3.0 grade point average or better.

The Department of English and World Languages has several work-study positions for student workers. Preference is given to departmental majors, but other students are sometimes employed.
The Department also has a number of Senior Service Fellowships available. Departmental majors with 90 semester hours of credit and at least a 3.0 GPA are encouraged to apply.
