The Department of English and World Languages offers eleven minors that can be added to most undergraduate degrees.
The 18-hour minor in creative writing provides students who cannot complete a full major with an opportunity to explore their interests in writing. The minor includes 18 hours of courses.
The minor in English is a useful addition to any degree, indicating a student's concentrated study in writing, literature, and/or media. The minor in English requires 18 hours and may include 2000-level general education English courses: 9 hours of ENGL 2-4000-level, 9 hours of ENGL 3-4000 level.
Arkansas Tech’s Film Studies minor allows students to explore major genres, eras, techniques, people, and theories that have shaped the development of American and world cinema as well as television. Students also have the option of taking a seminar in screenwriting.
The minor in French is designed for foreign language majors who would like to study an additional language and for students who cannot complete a major in a foreign language, but for employment or other considerations, would like to obtain some basic foreign language competencies and be familiar with the culture of the target language. The minor in Latin American and Latino Studies with language proficiency is designed
for students who wish to obtain a sufficient background about the Spanish speaking
populations in Arkansas and the United States. This minor will be particularly valuable
to students who are already bilingual and who plan to work with native Spanish speakers
in the health fields, law enforcement, education, and the service sectors. The minor
in Latin American and Latino Studies with language proficiency requires 18 hours of

The minor in teaching English as a second language offers students an opportunity to add this useful specialization to their transcripts. Licensed Arkansas teachers who complete the four core courses can add the ESL endorsement to their licenses. The TESL minor includes 18 hours of courses.
