has been paralyzed from the chest down and in his hands ever since. He completed three
months of rehabilitation in Denver CO at a world class facility and then returned
to ATU for his Senior Year. “Tech and the people there were critical in my recovery
and getting back to life. I will say that any time I had a concern for access or inclusion
the faculty were quick to make accommodations. These accommodations over the last
year and a half there assisted me greatly in graduating with a Bachelor's degree in
Recreation Administration.” His internship was in Reno NV where he played wheelchair
sports including rugby, handcycling, and skiing. Upon graduation, he quickly landed
in his chosen career field. “ATU is a special place for me and I am always willing
to step in and help wherever I can.” Tyler will be speaking to faculty about what
the campus did well and how faculty can continue to strive to help students with physical
limitations.

Thurs. Oct. 21 - Online Student Support: Why Returning to Pre-Pandemic Service Models Won't Work,
12:00 pm
Research coming out of COVID learning informs us that college students have adapted
to online learning and receiving services like tutoring and advising at a distance.
Additionally, students are looking for educational experiences that include more tech
and digital course materials. And in listening to our students, they are telling us
that their “normal” of learning no longer exists, and any messaging that states school
has “returned to normal” does not honor the experience of pandemic learning. How can
institutions respond to students’ needs and desires to have online services and resources
even as institutions shift back to in-person learning? In this presentation, we will
discuss why it is critical student services do not lose the online presence they’ve
developed in the last year and examine opportunities to grow and develop these services.
Presenters will share solutions for keeping students learning and connected online
such as Innovative Educators StudentLingo workshops. In addition, presenters will
provide recommendations and creative ways to address barriers to online services.
