Wed. Aug. 12 - Professional Development Day - Five Fast Universal Design for Learning Remote-Teaching Strategies by Thomas J. Tobin, 1:30-2:30 pm
To help make educational materials and practices inclusive and useful for all learners, this interactive keynote radically reflects on how faculty members and course designers can adopt Universal Design for Learning in order to create learning interactions that provide students with more time for study and practice in their busy days: broaden our focus away from learners with disabilities and toward a larger ease-of-use/general-inclusion framework.

Thurs. Aug. 13 - "Help! I'm Moving My Course Online!" - Practical Advice for New Online Instructors (Magna Publications online seminar), 1:00 pm
Whether you’re assigned to teach a class online at the last minute or just need to quickly transition to online teaching because of a campus closure or personal situation, there's no need to panic! New online classes do not need to have all the bells and whistles of established online classes—they just need to follow some simple design principles to help you and your students have the best experience possible on short notice. We are offering a free Magna Online Seminar, "Help! I’m Moving My Course Online!"– Practical Advice for New Online Instructors, in which you’ll learn some basic ideas to consider to help you design a course that is easy for your students to navigate. You and your students will make it through the semester! Registration for the live version of this seminar closes at 8:00 am Central on Thursday, August 13.

Tues. Aug. 18 - Maximizing Student Engagement with Course Readings (Magna Publications online seminar), 1:00 pm
Have you ever had difficulty getting students to complete required readings?  Is it a challenge to get them to think more critically about the content? This Magna Online Seminar will introduce four methods for increasing your students’ engagement with course readings.  Each method will be explored in detail, and all materials will be supplied for you to use these activities with your own classes.

Thurs. Aug. 20 - Going Virtual: Incorporating Assignments Into Your Active Learning Toolkit (iClicker webinar), 2:00 pm
Teaching and learning in 2020 have required a whole new level of flexibility. Enter iClicker’s new Assignments feature, which engages students with pre-authored questions that they work through on their own schedule. In this webinar, iClicker training specialist Lindsey Thomas will explain how Assignments can be used for a wide range of teaching scenarios: whether you’re delivering classes synchronously or asynchronously, online or face-to-face, or whether you want to engage students before, during, or after class. Lindsey will show you how to create questions, set up an Assignment in your iClicker Cloud course, and track student progress. You’ll even have a chance to participate using our iClicker Reef app to get a feel for the student experience. This will be a great chance to ask any questions you might have about using iClicker in asynchronous and/or remote classes before the fall term begins. Can’t join us live? Register anyway! Aug. 28 - Examining the Intersection of Equity, Trauma-Informed Pedagogy, and Social Emotional Learning by Dr. Mays Imad, Professor of Genetics, Biotechnology, and Bioethics and founding coordinator of the Teaching and Learning Center at Pima Community College (webinar, KSU Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning), 1:30-3:00 pm
This webinar will interrogate what it means to teach for purpose, empowerment, and liberation. How do we leverage the neuroscience of now to help our students learn and thrive in turbulent times? We will also examine the theoretical framework and practical implications of trauma-informed pedagogy and social emotional learning. We hope you’ll join us for this important event! Wed. Sept. 9 - Structuring a Course So That All Students Participate (Chronicle of Higher Education webinar), 1:00 pm
When colleges abruptly closed this spring, everyone learned just how hard it is to replicate the engagement of in-classroom education online. With virtual education continuing this fall, the higher ed community is asking: how can faculty structure classes to encourage everyone to participate and collaborate? The Chronicle is gathering a panel of experts in higher ed to shed light on this essential issue. Hosted by Beth McMurtrie, the discussion will examine ways to prevent students from feeling disengaged and excluded during this unprecedented semester.

Fri. Oct. 23 - Overcoming Microaggressions as a Faculty Member (Academic Impressions webcast), 12:00 pm
Join us online for this free webcast to learn how microaggressions can trigger faculty, especially women and other underrepresented populations. Item analysis provides statistics on overall performance, test quality, and individual questions. This data helps you recognize questions that might be poor discriminators of student performance. Tues. Oct. 27 - Supporting First-Gen Students through Inclusive Course Design (free webinar), 1:00 pm
For first-generation students, higher education offers a gateway to career advancement, valued social capital, and intergenerational mobility. Yet despite the best efforts of instructors, first-generation students face numerous challenges to successfully completing a degree, evidenced in higher drop-out rates compared to their peers. Understanding those challenges can help inform course design strategies that foster a greater sense of inclusion and belonging that can help all students find academic success.
