RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. (April 30, 2008)--A rite of summer at Arkansas Tech University will celebrate its 25th anniversary this year when the Tech Young Researchers Summer Camp hosts students from pre-kindergarten through the eighth grade.
There will be two sessions for the 2008 Arkansas Tech Young Researchers Camp. The first will run from Monday, June 9, through Friday, June 20. The second session will start on Monday, June 23, and conclude on Thursday, July 3.
“Each two-week session offers students an opportunity for in-depth investigation into an area of personal interest,” said Dr. Gwen Morgan, professor of elementary education and director of teacher education student services at Arkansas Tech. “The program emphasizes the expression of learning through the creation of original projects. Experiences in creative problem solving, realistic goal setting, decision making and goal evaluation are an integral part of the program.”
The camp will be at the W.O. Young Building Ballroom at will be from 9 a.m.-noon daily. Cost is $120, and there are a limited number of $85 scholarships that will be awarded based on financial need.
“Children who enjoy and do well in this type of program may demonstrate above average intelligence, above average creativity, leadership ability, above average performance in a specific academic subject or unusual interest in a particular topic,” said Morgan.
